Like many industries in the North American; one of the biggest issues is the enormous wage gap between women and their male counterparts. Many women can do the same job in the same capacity, in the same time and sometimes even better than males can. However, the wage gap epidemic also rolls over into the world of women’s professional sports. In WNBA, players are fighting to be valued the same as male athletes. Now let’s get this straight… these women can BALL! The three main fundamentals of basketball is the ability for a player to Dribble, Pass and Shoot; 95% of the players in the WNBA can do all of these things. In the NBA not so much, some players are in the league just based on their athleticism. The highest paid player in the WNBA will bring home about $110k annually in comparison to the average NBA player salary per year as of 2018 which is 6.2 million dollars; a 6.09 million difference no way close to 10 percent.

Many WNBA players play overseas in the offseason to supplement their income; the teams overseas can players far more than in the WNBA. So much so that Diana Taurasi of Phoenix Mercury offseason team UMMC Ekaterinburg paid her $1 million to rest up over the WNBA season. The 1 million pay out was 10 times Diana’s salary she would make in American. If a team can pay a player this well why can’t these American teams do the same. However, its not the only issue that players are facing; for example, a team missed a playoff game due to a delayed. Not to bash the league but a professional league should have charter flights for its athletes. The players are asking for much but the right to be valued as professionals in their sport.
