Making Purpose Popular

Ouuu! Tobe Nwigwe has been one of the hottest hip hop artists of last year going into 2019! I came across him on a Friday Fire Cypher on Sway’s Universe and I was blown away by the openness and lyrical talent flowing through my headphones. Tobe Nwigwe is a Southwest Alie, Texas (AKA The “SWAT”) native has been the talk of 2018 in the hip hop community. Tobe Nwigwe was a star linebacker at the University of North Texas with a college career that seem to be heading to towards the NFL until an apparent knee injury ended his football career.

Growing up football seem to be intertwined with his identity and after football was taken away from him; Tobe had to discover who he was without football. Many people in today’s society struggle with identity in terms of who are they are and many times they associate it with what they do whether it is their career or sport. Lebron James is always mentioning that he is ‘More Than An Athlete” and does more than just dribble a basketball. Tobe Nwigwe after football, he concluded that he had to determine what his purpose was and how he could use his purpose to affect others… This Purpose being music.

Tobe Nwigwe is probably one of the most diligent hip hop artists I’ve seen; in a era of mumble rappers, Nwigwe brings BARS on BARS on BARS with an incredible lyrical flow. He uses his experiences through sports, figuring out purpose and his faith in God in his music to impact and reach the people in his community. For 2 years Tobe Nwigwe would drop a new video every week spitting a verse on various types of beats called GET TWISTED SUNDAYS (look it up); little would he know that he was not just impacting his community but thousands of people across the states and north of the border.

I believe one of the qualities that allows Tobe to connect others is the ability to 100% REAL. Tobe is a Christian, but he doesn’t come off as being holier than thou and is very open about his struggles. In the climate of domestic violence in the media; Nwigwe uses every opportunity to glorify his wife (Fat Nwigwe) in every video that he has made. Tobe Nwigwe just moves differently than your common rapper, but you cannot doubt the gravitation towards his music. MAKE PURPOSE POPULAR!
